Ensure proper visibility and comfort. Side mirrors should show a small portion of your vehicle.
Set temperature (usually blue=cold, red=warm). Use defrost for windshield fog.
Iceland law requires headlights 24/7, even in summer. Turn dial to ‘Auto’ or ‘On’.
Familiarize yourself with warning lights: oil, battery, engine, and tire pressure indicators.
Fueling Your Vehicle
Check Fuel Type
Look at your fuel cap or rental agreement. NEVER mix petrol and diesel!
Warning: Diesel pump is Black, Petrol pump is Green
Find Gas Stations
Use your GPS or apps like Gasvaktin to locate stations. Many are unstaffed and card-only.
Warning: Always carry a credit card with PIN for self-service pumps.
Return with Full Tank
Refuel before returning to avoid refueling charges. Keep your last receipt as proof.
Warning: Refueling fee: Admin fee + fuel cost if not filled.
