Insurance Packages

We offer three simplified coverage packages:

  • Basic
  • Medium
  • Max

Below you can find an explanation of each individual insurance option included within those packages.

Individual Insurance Options

📋 Insurance Explanations

🚗 CDW – Collision Damage Waiver

CDW reduces the customer’s financial liability for damage to the Hertz vehicle, its parts, and accessories.

  • Mandatory for most rentals
  • Some customers may waive CDW
  • If waived, customer is fully responsible for all damages
Not Covered:
Underbody damage, theft, tires & wheels, sand and ash damage.

🛡️ SCDW – Super Collision Damage Waiver

SCDW further reduces the customer’s financial liability.

  • Covers the same parts as CDW
  • Comes with a lower excess

🔐 TP – Theft Protection

TP limits liability if the vehicle is stolen.

  • Applies only to the vehicle
  • Does not cover personal belongings
  • Does not apply in cases of gross negligence

🪟 WSP – Windshield Protection

Covers damage to:

  • Front windshield
  • Headlights
With WSP, customer liability for these parts is reduced to zero.

🌋 SAAP – Sand & Ash Protection

Covers damage caused by sand and volcanic ash, which is common in Iceland.

  • Includes an excess amount
  • Only ZERO package reduces excess to zero

⚖️ TPL – Third Party Liability

Mandatory insurance included with all vehicles.

  • Covers damage or injury to other vehicles, people, or property
  • Does not apply under alcohol or drug influence
  • Does not apply for intentional damage

ZERO Package

⭐ ZERO Coverage Package

The ZERO package reduces self-excess to ZERO for covered damages.

Included protections:
  • CDW
  • SCDW
  • TPL / PAI
  • TP
  • WSP / WP
  • Windows & Glass
  • Gravel Protection (GP)
  • Sand & Ash Protection (SAAP)
  • Tires & Wheels
Not Covered

❌ Damages Not Covered by Insurance

🚧 Underbody Damage

Damage underneath the vehicle caused by rocks, rough roads, or off-road driving.

🌊 Water Damage

Damage caused by rivers, flooded roads, seawater, or water crossings.

🚙 Vehicle Misuse

Standing, sitting, or climbing on the roof or body of the vehicle.

⛽ Misfuel

Putting the wrong fuel into the vehicle and any resulting damages.
