Can Your Vehicle Go on F-Roads?
F-roads are mountain roads in Iceland's interior highlands. Only 4WD vehicles with sufficient ground clearance are permitted. Check which rental vehicles are approved for F-road driving below.

Driving a 2WD vehicle on F-roads is illegal in Iceland and can result in heavy fines. It also voids your rental insurance. Always check your vehicle's capability before attempting F-road routes.
F-Road Requirements
Vehicle Must Be 4WD
All four wheels must be able to receive power. 2WD and AWD vehicles are strictly prohibited on F-roads by Icelandic law.
Sufficient Ground Clearance
Minimum 200mm ground clearance recommended. F-roads have deep ruts, large rocks, and river crossings.
Proper Insurance Coverage
Ensure your rental agreement includes F-road coverage. Standard insurance typically excludes highland driving.
