Ice & Black Ice

Ice & Black Ice

Invisible ice patches are common year-round

Black ice is something we see regularly in Iceland, it is important to know what it looks like and when it may occur.

It is a transparent layer of thin ice that can be invisible to the naked eye.

The roads look like they are just wet or shiny.

It usually forms in changing weather when the temperature is around -2°C – +3°C.

It is more common when it rains and is followed by calm, cold weather.

If you are experiencing ice or black ice, slow down and drive so that you can control the vehicle fully.
